Where to Make Friends in College

You are going to start your first year in college hoping to make friends that will turn into lifelong connections. But where to start looking? What is the key to finding friends? There are plenty of ways to make friends in college but the secret is to look in the right locations. In this article, we will talk about some of the best spots to meet someone new in college.

The Dorm

Be friendly and polite to everyone in your dorm and you will likely make new friends very quickly. Keep in mind that most young people are in the similar situation as you are and will gladly meet someone new.

Make sure to introduce yourself to the neighbors as you move in. There is an awkward feeling when you know a person but have never “officially” meet them so it is better to get acquainted with everyone right away.

Also, you can demonstrate that you are open to meeting new friends by keeping your dorm room door open when you are home.

There are multiple options of what you can join in college. Check out which clubs, groups, fraternities and sororities, or sport teams are there in your college and join something with people who have interests akin to yours.

Visit all the sport games and campus events even if you are not very interested in them as it is a great way to meet other students and make new friends. Join in on things when invited even if you are sure you will not fit in with new groups of people because you never know certainly until you try.

Chances are great that you will meet some nice people who will become your friends while volunteering for a good cause. Just make sure to select something you are interested in so that is something you enjoy, as well.

Study Sessions

You probably have much in common with people who attend the same classes that you do. Join particular study session or even organize one for yourself and your classmates. They will definitely appreciate your effort and it will be a good way for all of you to get to know each other.

Hang out in Common Areas

When you are working on assignments which are not too intense, try doing it in a common area within common areas on your campus. When you are bored, rather than sitting in your room with the door shut, invite somebody to play a game in a common area.

Get a Part-Time Job

By getting a job, you get the chance not only to make new connections with co-workers but also can earn some extra money. It is even better if you can find a job on campus and can meet other students.

Remember that the best way to make new friends is to be open to people. Make sure to always stay yourself, make eye contact, smile, and make small talks when there is an opportunity.
